# Do measurements in Access

Access is the BactoBox® platform you reach by connecting your BactoBox® to your computer. It opens in your browser.

Run your measurements from Access, and your BactoBox® records them for you.

* No dilution calculations. Enter the dilution factor, and Access works out the concentration of your undiluted sample.
* No writing results down by hand. Each result is stored with its sampling time, dilution factor and label.
* Plots. See your growth curve in real time, in both concentration and cell size.
* All your data in one place, ready to download as a CSV file.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open Access

Connect your BactoBox® to your computer and open Access. See [Connect to Access](/more/software/connect-to-access.md). The buttons you know from your BactoBox® now sit on your screen.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Create a measurement group

Create a *Basic* measurement group, as shown below. It collects your measurements in one table. To plot a growth curve, pick *Growth curve* instead. You can change the type later. See [Create and open measurement groups](/more/software/create-and-open-measurement-groups.md) for all group types.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Measure and annotate each sample

Set *Sampled at*, the dilution factor and a label, then click <kbd><mark style="background-color:purple;">Measure<mark style="background-color:purple;"></kbd>. When the measurement is done, Access adds the concentration of your undiluted sample to the table. See [Label your samples](/more/software/label-your-samples.md).

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Download your data

Open the measurement group and click *Export CSV*. To download all your measurements at once, click *Download summary* in the side bar. See [Export your data](/more/software/export-your-data.md).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/everyday-use/do-measurements-in-access.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
