### Get the most out of your BactoBox®

See [Best practices](/best-practices/best-practices.md), [Maintenance](/maintenance/maintenance.md), and [Service agreement](/item-register/service-agreement/service-agreement.md).
{% endhint %}

BactoBox® counts individual cells and reports *cells/mL* in a few minutes.

## Use cases

Use BactoBox® to measure the *cells/mL* concentration of your [sample vial](/item-register/vials-flasks-and-liquids/sample-vial.md).

## Terminology

{% columns %}
{% column %}
**BactoBox®**

Refers to either a BactoBox® device or a BactoBox® setup. Use BactoBox® when the context doesn't require further explanation.
{% endcolumn %}

{% column %}
**BactoBox® device**

The 240×140×60 mm device itself. References just the device and no consumables or accessories.
{% endcolumn %}

{% column %}
**BactoBox® setup**

The combination of several items: A BactoBox® device, its consumables, and its accessories. Together, these items form a BactoBox® setup.

The main items in a BactoBox® setup are:

* BactoBox® device
* [flow cell](/item-register/consumables/flow-cell.md)
* [tubing kit](/item-register/accessories/tubing-kit.md)
* [external filter](/item-register/consumables/external-filter.md)

Perform a [QC test](/getting-started/qc-test.md) whenever you replace one of these items!
{% endcolumn %}
{% endcolumns %}

### Flow cell compartment

The flow cell compartment is the space just under the [flow cell cover](/item-register/accessories/flow-cell-cover.md). This is where we put the [flow cell](/item-register/consumables/flow-cell.md).

{% content-ref url="/spaces/eYTtd7c0A325muFr5lMW/pages/zWG6hcDJTgf7dwzHYiWJ" %}
[Install flow cell](/getting-started/installation/install-flow-cell.md)
{% endcontent-ref %}

The flow cell compartment reveals the PCB including electrical pogo pins and the inlet/outlet for the liquid. Both the electrical and liquid pathways are very delicate, which is why we protect them with the flow cell cover against dust, spills, etc.

{% hint style="success" %}

### Always put the flow cell cover back in place over the flow cell compartment

This protects the delicate parts underneath.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/item-register/bactobox-r/bactobox-r.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
