# Deep clean vial

Removes limescale and biofilm during a Deep clean.

## When you need one

A [Deep clean](/maintenance/deep-clean-1.md) uses one vial, and runs at least once a week, so a pack of five covers about five weeks. The weekly run keeps limescale and biofilm from building up in the flow cell.

Run one out of turn to recover a flow cell that failed the [QC test](/getting-started/qc-test.md). Try the 15-minute option first, then the 10-hour option if the problem persists.
