# Flow cell

Use with BactoBox® to measure bacteria. Always provided with two external filters.

## Install and replace

[Install the flow cell](/getting-started/installation/install-flow-cell.md) in your BactoBox®.

Replace the flow cell after 250 measurements. The BactoBox® software prompts you when you get there.

### Replace the external filter when you replace the flow cell <a href="#replace-the-external-filter" id="replace-the-external-filter"></a>

Every flow cell ships with two [external filters](/item-register/individual-items/external-filter.md), one to fit now and one spare. See [Install tubing kit](/getting-started/installation/install-tubing-kit.md) for details.

**Run a** [QC test](/maintenance/qc-test.md) **when you replace the external filter.**

### The flow cell is worn out after 250 measurements <a href="#the-flow-cell-lasts-for-250-measurements" id="the-flow-cell-lasts-for-250-measurements"></a>

After 250 measurements, the flow cell reaches its usage limit and is automatically locked. This limit is set to guarantee the factory calibration of the flow cell.

Only a completed measurement counts. Cleaning does not, and neither does a QC test.
