**A QC test also needs a ready-made dilution vial**

A **QC test** measures a **QC vial**, then measures a **blank**, which is a plain dilution vial with nothing added.

The pack holds 10 QC vials and no blanks. Each QC test takes one [ready-made dilution vial](/item-register/consumables/dilution-liquid-ready-made-vials.md), even if you fill your own vials for samples.

## When you need one

You use one QC vial per QC test, so a pack covers 10 QC tests. Run a QC test at least once a week, and after every deep clean. See [QC test](/maintenance/qc-test.md) for the full list of when to run one.

A QC vial from this pack is ready to measure, so there is no QC stock to add.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**A QC vial is for single use only**

Once the liquid passes through BactoBox®, its properties may change. Trace residues of disinfection liquid from the previous cleaning cycle can lower both the conductivity and the concentration of microspheres.

Always discard a QC vial after use.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/item-register/consumables/qc-vials.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
