## Non-sterile

Always pass the liquid through a 0.22 µm [syringe filter](/item-register/consumables/syringe-filter.md) immediately before use. Any 0.22 µm syringe filter works. SBT can supply one.

## Filling your own vials

Fill an [empty vial](/item-register/individual-items/empty-vial.md) with dilution liquid to [make your own dilution vials](/item-register/accessories/dilution-dispenser/using-the-dilution-dispenser/fill-your-dilution-vials.md).

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Do not store filled vials**

Fill only the vials you are about to use. A filled vial must not be kept overnight, because growth develops in it and skews your result.

Cold storage is not a fix. It may slow the growth, but it also takes the conductivity outside the range BactoBox® needs, and the measurement fails.

{% hint style="success" %}

## Ready-made vials avoid the filling step

The [dilution vial](/item-register/individual-items/dilution-vial.md) arrives filtered, conductivity-adjusted, and long-term stable thanks to gamma radiation sterilization. Filling vials yourself introduces [several ways to drift out of range](/troubleshooting/qc-test-fails/dilution-vial-is-outside...md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/item-register/individual-items/dilution-liquid-5-l.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
