# Dilution vial

Add your sample to a dilution vial to make a [sample vial](/item-register/vials-you-prepare/sample-vial.md), then measure that on BactoBox®.

**Sterile-filtered, then gamma-sterilized**

A dilution vial is filled with sterile-filtered, conductivity-adjusted dilution liquid, and gamma-sterilized afterwards. That is what keeps it stable for the full shelf life. Once the liquid has passed through BactoBox®, we can no longer guarantee its sterility and purity. Always discard a dilution vial after use.
