{% hint style="success" %}
**Pure and sterile**

Fill an SBT empty vial with sterile-filtered dilution liquid and measure it, and you read below 30 000 cells/mL and below 100 000 total/mL. The SBT empty vials are both sterile and with low particle count.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Do not substitute a third-party vial**

Third-party vials often carry loose plastic particles left from production, even when they are sold as sterile. Vortexing releases those particles into the liquid, and BactoBox® counts them along with your sample.
{% endhint %}

## What you fill it with

Use an empty vial as a container for a culture sample.

Fill an empty vial with [dilution liquid](/item-register/individual-items/dilution-liquid-5-l.md) to [make your own dilution vials](/item-register/accessories/dilution-dispenser/using-the-dilution-dispenser/fill-your-dilution-vials.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/item-register/individual-items/empty-vial.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
