## Use cases

Use the empty vial as container for a culture sample.

Fill the empty vial with [diluent](/item-register/vials-flasks-and-liquids/dilution-liquid-5-l.md) to [make a DIY dilution vial](/advanced/do-it-yourself-diy/diy-dilution-dispenser/make-diy-dilution-vial.md).

[DIY dilution dispenser](/advanced/do-it-yourself-diy/diy-dilution-dispenser.md)
{% endcontent-ref %}

{% hint style="success" %}

## Use the SBT dilution vial (bundled as `DV01`)

The SBT dilution vial pairs perfectly with your BactoBox®. It avoids all the [pitfalls of DIY dilution vials](https://github.com/sbtinstruments/docsites/blob/main/troubleshooting/qualification-fails/dilution-vial-is-outside...md).

The SBT dilution vial is filtered, conductivity-adjusted, and long-term stable thanks to gamma radiation sterilization.

## What is a *vial*?

In SBT terms, an empty vial is a 15 mL conical centrifuge tube.

BactoBox® connects to a vial via the [tubing kit](/item-register/accessories/tubing-kit.md). See the [vial rack](/item-register/accessories/vial-rack.md) for a convenient way to store vials.
