# Deep clean your setup

Clear limescale and biofilm from the flow path with a deep clean vial. The weekly deep clean takes 15 minutes.

Limescale and biofilm build up in your flow cell over time. Its narrowest channel is 10 × 25 µm, so even a light build-up affects your measurements.

## When to deep clean

Deep clean your BactoBox® in these cases:

* **Every week you use your BactoBox®.** Use the 15-minute option.
* Before your first measurement after more than a week without use.
* To recover a flow cell that failed the QC test. Try the 15-minute option first, and the 10-hour option if the problem remains.

## Step by step

{% step %}

#### Move the tubing kit to a deep clean vial

Place a [deep clean vial](/item-register/consumables/deep-clean-vial.md) in the vial rack and move the tubing kit to it.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Start the *Deep clean* program

Press and hold <kbd>Measure</kbd> for 2 seconds to open the *Programs* menu. Use the navigation buttons (<kbd>OK</kbd> <kbd>←</kbd> <kbd>∨</kbd> <kbd>∧</kbd>) to select *Deep clean*, and press <kbd>OK</kbd>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Select the duration

Select the duration, usually 15 minutes, and press <kbd>OK</kbd> to start.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Close and discard the deep clean vial

When the program is done, the deep clean solution is back in the vial. Close the vial with its screw cap and discard it as biological waste. It is for single use only.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Clean with a disinfection vial

Run a [Clean](/more/how-to-guides/clean-your-setup.md) with a [disinfection vial](/item-register/consumables/disinfection-vial.md). Its 70 % denatured alcohol flushes out any deep clean solution left in the flow path.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Run a QC test

Run a [QC test](/maintenance/qc-test.md) to check that your BactoBox® measures correctly.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/more/how-to-guides/deep-clean-your-setup.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
