# Replace the syringe filter

Replace the 0.22 µm syringe filter on your dilution dispenser at the start of each day.

Your [dilution dispenser](/item-register/accessories/dilution-dispenser.md) dispenses through a 0.22 µm [syringe filter](/item-register/consumables/syringe-filter.md). Replace it at the start of each day, and sooner if it squeaks or you need to press harder to dispense. A filter typically clogs after 200–500 mL, or 20–50 dispenses of 10 mL.

## What you need

* A new 0.22 µm [syringe filter](/item-register/consumables/syringe-filter.md).
* An [empty vial](/item-register/individual-items/empty-vial.md).

## Step by step

{% step %}

#### Remove the old filter

Unscrew the old syringe filter from the Luer lock adapter on the ejection unit.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Be careful not to unscrew the Luer lock adapter itself from the ejection unit.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Fit the new filter

Screw the new syringe filter onto the Luer lock adapter.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Check the volume

Dispense once and discard it. The first volume is often wrong. Dispense again and confirm that it fills the vial to the 10 mL mark.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Consult the included Hirschmann manual for details on operation, safety and troubleshooting.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/more/how-to-guides/replace-syringe-filter.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
