## v2026.09

{% hint style="danger" %}

### Save your CIZE data before you update

This update hides all CIZE values recorded with earlier software on your BactoBox®, because they cannot be compared with the new, calibrated CIZE. Export your growth curve groups before you update. If you have already updated, [contact us](https://sbtinstruments.com/contact) and we will help you get your CIZE data back.
{% endhint %}

**Breaking changes**

* 💻📟❗ Calibrate CIZE with the QC test. CIZE is now comparable between devices and flow cells, and is no longer experimental. Without a calibrating QC test, CIZE stays blank. Run a QC test every week to keep CIZE reliable. See [Cell size (CIZE)](/more/software/cell-size-cize.md).
* 💻📟❗ Require a passing QC test on a new flow cell before you can measure. Until then, the device shows "QC test required" and Measure stops with error 2103.
* 💻❗ Remove the HPI, CFU and OD columns from the basic report and its CSV export.
* ❗ Drop support for Windows 7.

**Added**

* 💻 Connect to *Access* from a Mac. *Access* now works on macOS, Windows 10, Windows 11 and Linux.
* 💻📟 Run the QC test from *Access* as a guided workflow. The device screen follows the same steps.
* 💻 Use the new plating, dilution-series and subcultivation calculators. Dilution factors can now be decimals, for example 13.5.
* 💻 Edit the measurement tables in *Access* like a spreadsheet, and sort any column.
* 💻 Download the growth curve, correlation and CIZE plots as SVG files.
* 💻 Start the 15-minute or the 10-hour deep clean from *Access*.

**Changed**

* 📟 Make the clean program fail when the vial holds a liquid that is not disinfectant, for example dilution liquid.
* 💻📟 Stop a measurement at start, with a clear message, when a clean is due, the device needs emptying, or the flow cell needs replacing.
* 📟 Remove the "clean after 20 measurements" reminder. Clean after every measurement instead.
* 📟 Rework the result screen to show CIZE, and load the History screen faster.
* 💻 Show numbers the way the device does, whatever your browser language. Decimals use a dot and thousands are separated by spaces.

**Fixed**

* 📟 Fix the device getting stuck after a power loss during a program. The device now asks you to empty it.
* 📟 Fix healthy measurements failing with error 2004 or 2006.
* 💻📟 Fix measurements losing their result or their error code.
* 📟 Fix maintenance reminders and device messages that came at the wrong time or gave the wrong advice.
* Fix device data bundles from v2026.06 that could not be opened. Download a new bundle to replace one.
* 💻 Fix *Access* becoming unreachable over USB after a Windows computer wakes from sleep.
* 💻 Fix glitches in reports, *Restore from backup* and support cases.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-08-19" %}

## v2026.06a

**Fixed**

* 💻 Fix the page buttons in the measurement table. Only the first page of measurements could be reached.
* 💻 Fix the ID column filter in the measurement table. Filtering by ID made the table fail to load.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-07-09" %}

## v2026.06

**Added**

* 💻 Add a button to start utility programs, e.g. the Conductivity program.
* 💻 Add a light, dark, and system appearance mode.
* 💻 Add keyboard shortcuts, e.g. `F1` to start the Measure program.
* 💻 Add one-click software update. Access now fetches and installs the latest release from the cloud.
* 💻🧰 Add a workshop-only "Explorer" page.
* ⚙️ Record per-event transition fits in the PEDB. This applies to measurements recorded from this update onwards; past measurements are not migrated.

**Changed**

* 💻 Rework how Access looks throughout. The functionality is the same; some controls and inputs are in new places.
* Allow HTTP requests from all origins. This makes it easier to use the HTTP API beyond Access.
* ⚙️ Store the mnemonic id in the PEDB instead of a separate file.
* ❗ Stop writing `.bdr` and `.csv` files on the device. Your `measurements.zip` still includes `.bdr` files, now derived from the database.
* 💻⚗️ Rework the report export. It is a work in progress.

**Fixed**

* Complete the fix for a very rare data corruption bug (wal-db-corruption). It was only triggered by downloading a device data bundle.
* 💻 Fix the device data bundle download timing out on the Support page.
* Report the specific "site velocity mismatch" cause instead of the generic "objects move too fast" error.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-04-15" %}

## v2026.02a

**Changed**

* Allow HTTP API connections from any origin via CORS. In practice, this allows all third party connections to BactoBox®.

**Fixed**

* Fix a very rare data corruption bug. We tracked this bug internally as wal-db-corruption.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-03-09" %}

## v2026.02

**Added**

* 💻⚗️ Add experimental "growth-curve" measurement group. This includes richer growth analytics, CIZE views, and computed HPI metadata in tables and plots.
* 💻 Add more column filters for the measurement and measurement group tables.
* 💻🧰 Add workshop-only "shipping-qc" measurement group.
* Store additional program settings in the PEDB. This makes it easier to troubleshoot when a program misbehaves.

**Changed**

* 💻 Rework the "Support" page entirely. The overall workflow is the same but the implementation behind it is now consistent with the other pages.

**Fixed**

* Fix "Database is locked" when connecting to BactoBox via USB while a program runs. Behind the scenes, the PEDB now uses a WAL.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-01-14" %}

## v2026.01

**Added**

* 💻 Add automatic clock synchronization when connected to Access.
* 💻 Add "Measurements" page to Access. Allows you to view and annotate measurements.
* 💻 Add "Measurement group" page to Access. Allows you to create measurement groups and add/remove measurements to them. It also features a plots of the growth curve and CFU correlation.
* 💻 Add MSEC buttons to Access (Measure, Stop, Empty, Clean). Allows you to start/stop programs directly through Access.
* 💻 Add progress bar to Access that shows the outline/outcome of the current program (if any).
* 💻🧰⚗️ Add experimental "SBT Lab" page to Access with live stream of the demodulated signal (from the lock-in amplifier).
* 💻 Add "System info" overview to the top right of Access.
* 💻 Add link to help center for error codes that we show in Access' bottom bar.
* Add PEDB file to the DDB. Makes it easier to troubleshoot (especially now that we have data annotations).

**Changed**

* Change "ml" (millilitre) to "mL" throughout.
* 💻 Rename "Measurements" to "Summary" in Access
* 💻 Rename "Summary" to "Download summary" in Access
* 💻 Hide scroll bars when they are unnecessary in Access

**Fixed**

* 📟 Fix dash entering in a pending state when start execution fails
* Fix snapshot creating a corrupted zip file when biome does not respond.
* Fix issue where fields such as "Software version" were missing data (inside the PEDB's outcome column).
* 💻 Fix overflow/wrap in Access for low screen sizes
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2025-11-17" %}

## v2025.10b

**Changed**

* 📟 Replace "blank diluent" for "Dilution vial" in QC test.

**Fixed**

* Fix "Execution error: \[Errno 111] Connection refused" when the end user presses Measure. This was due to an issue with corrupt/missing starred.json file.
* Always persist changes to .crs.json files and starred.json files when the user presses *Save*. This avoids an issue where the user presses *Save*, flips the rocker switch shortly after, and ends up with a corrupt/missing starred.json file.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2025-10-15" %}

## v2025.10

**Added**

* Deep clean program has two options: 15 minutes and 10 hours.
* 📟 Add 2 steps to the QC test guide screen: 'Clean' and 'Measure on blank diluent'
* 📟 Add 'Set target concentration' screen right before entering in the QC test guide screen.
* Add 50XX error codes related to the blank liquid validation.
* Add liquid info to the extended troubleshooting bundle.

**Changed**

* Replace 'See troubleshooting guide' text in error messages to 'Further instructions: help.sbtinstruments.com'.
* 📟 Disable empty program by default. It is only enabled when the 'There is liquid in the system modal' appears.
* 📟 Change confusing text in the 'Ready' home screen. Now it just displays Ready.
* Remove flush program
* Replace the flush modal for the deep clean modal. It is triggered by 1 week since the last deep clean of any length.
* Merge the 40XX errors to the new error system implemented in bebop
* Replace Clean the system/flow system for Clean the setup to keep it consistent with the help center.
* Change rinse duration in deep clean from 20 to 25 seconds and reduce the soak duration from 20 to 15 seconds.
* Change the QC test durability cost to 0. This includes the Measure on blank diluent step.
* Replace system for setup in all the different flow directives.
  {% endupdate %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/software/bactobox-r-software-changelog.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
