# Precautions

Things to take into account to ensure safe and proper use of BactoBox®

## Safety precautions

### Do **NOT** spill liquid on BactoBox®

Spills damage the internal electronics. Keep vials, bottles, and drinks off the device. Liquid damage is not covered by warranty.

### Do **NOT** allow the power supply to get wet

### Do **NOT** use a damaged power supply

### Do **NOT** use BactoBox® near fire or other strong heat sources

The disinfection vials contain 70 % isopropanol.

### Switch off and unplug if something seems wrong

If you observe unexpected noises, smoke, or smells, turn off BactoBox® immediately and pull the power cable out of BactoBox®.

## Operational precautions

### Do **NOT** use third-party chemicals to clean your BactoBox® setup

Third party chemicals may cause permanent damage to your device. Only use the SBT disinfection vials. See [chemical compatibility](/technical-documentation/hardware/chemical-compatibility.md) before you consider anything else.

### Do **NOT** move BactoBox® while it runs

BactoBox® is a stationary device. Don't move the device while it operates. This avoids hardware damage and errors in the measurements.

### Do **NOT** use BactoBox® near strong vibration sources

This may negatively influence the measurements or damage the device.

Keep BactoBox® away from strong vibration sources. Vortex mixers are typically fine. Bead beaters vibrate too much.

### Do **NOT** try to open or repair your BactoBox® device

This may cause permanent damage to the hardware.
