# Does not power on

The display stays dark when you switch your BactoBox® on.

You flip the rocker switch to *On*, and the display never shows the SBT logo.

Did your BactoBox® start, and then freeze or go dark? See [Display is frozen or dark](/troubleshooting/other-problems/display-is-frozen-or-dark.md).

### The power indicator

The power indicator is the green LED on your BactoBox®, marked *H* in the image.

#### Check the power cable

Check that the power cable is fully inserted into your BactoBox®.

#### Check the wall socket

Check that the power supply is fully inserted into the wall socket, and that the socket is switched on.
{% endstep %}

#### Check the power supply

The [power supply](/item-register/bactobox-r/bactobox-r/in-the-box/power-supply.md) has a green LED on top. If it does not light up, you need a new power supply. [Contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support.md).

## The power indicator lights up, but the display stays dark

#### Check the type of power supply

Your power supply must have a green LED and a smooth, flat top. An older type looks different. If yours does not match, you need a new power supply. [Contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support.md).

<figure><img src="https://1589625940-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FQorx08wID6YNpw8pEV0j%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2278987e1e183300c094b4bb335bf7d8291fd30d%2Ffile.excalidraw%20(1).svg?alt=media" alt="Current power supply (left) and older power supply (right). The current one has a green LED and a smooth, flat top."><figcaption><p>Current power supply (left) and older power supply (right).</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Contact support

Your power supply matches? Then it is most likely a hardware issue. [Contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support.md), and tell us about any damage you see.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/troubleshooting/other-problems/does-not-power-on.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
