# Flow cell does not work

The screen says the flow cell is invalid, obsolete, depleted or removed.

Find the message your BactoBox® shows.

Got an error code during a sample or a QC test instead? See [Error codes](/troubleshooting/error-codes.md).

## *Flow cell removed*

Your BactoBox® does not detect the flow cell.

Press firmly on the top section of the flow cell until it clicks. Then press firmly on the lower section until it clicks again. Once in place, it feels slightly springy when you press the center. See [Install flow cell](/getting-started/installation/install-flow-cell.md).

If the message stays, [contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support.md).

## *Flow cell invalid*

Remove the flow cell and [install it again](/getting-started/installation/install-flow-cell.md). If the message stays, [contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support.md).

## *Flow cell depleted*

The flow cell has reached 250 measurements and is locked. The limit protects its factory calibration. Install a new [flow cell](/item-register/consumables/flow-cell.md), and replace the external filter at the same time.

## *Flow cell obsolete*

This flow cell is an old type that your BactoBox® no longer supports. Install a current [flow cell](/item-register/consumables/flow-cell.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/troubleshooting/other-problems/flow-cell-does-not-work.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
