# Stuck at spinner

The screen says Initializing or Stopping and does not move on.

Your BactoBox® shows a progress spinner and does not move on. The screen title is *Initializing*, *Stopping* or similar.

The title is Initializing."><figcaption><p>Stuck at the progress spinner. The title is <em>Initializing</em>.</p></figcaption></figure>

## The title is *Initializing*

This is the most common case.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Press <kbd>Stop</kbd>

The *Result* screen opens. It may be empty.

<figure><img src="https://1589625940-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FQorx08wID6YNpw8pEV0j%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-b04fe60f7cf93068dd45924614fd7efd4a161da8%2Fdash--fix-stuck-at-initializing.avif?alt=media" alt="Press Stop to reach the Result screen. It may be empty."><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Press <kbd>Stop</kbd> again

You are back at the *Home* screen, and your BactoBox® is ready to use.

Did the title change to *Stopping* instead? See below.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## The title is *Stopping*

This is rare. Button presses do not help, and neither does a restart on its own.

<figure><img src="https://1589625940-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FQorx08wID6YNpw8pEV0j%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-f40f8fb1f8f766aef303f8de98b3f26414b3ff48%2Fdash--stuck-at-stopping.avif?alt=media" alt="BactoBox® stuck at the progress spinner. The title is Stopping." width="375"><figcaption><p>The title is <em>Stopping</em>. Button presses do not help.</p></figcaption></figure>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Remove and reinsert the flow cell

Remove the flow cell. Then [insert it again](/getting-started/installation/install-flow-cell.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Restart

Switch your BactoBox® off and on with the rocker switch. Wait for the *Home* screen.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Press <kbd>Stop</kbd>

Dismiss any messages, then press <kbd>Stop</kbd>. Your BactoBox® is ready to use.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Why it happens

* Your BactoBox® lost power during a program.
* A software bug occurred during a program, for example [wal-db-corruption](/software/miscellaneous/known-software-issues.md#wal-db-corruption).

If it keeps happening, [contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.sbtinstruments.com/troubleshooting/other-problems/stuck-at-spinner.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
